This simple activity can make you a better leader.

Are you wondering what it takes to be self-aware? Here is one activity that could last a month, a year, or longer.

Spend the next month, two months or more (developing self-awareness is a longer-term reflection process) and reflect on each aspect of the following as it relates to your thoughts, words, actions, and habits:

Know your thoughts, they become words;
Know your words, they become actions;
Reflect on actions; they become habits;
Observe habits; they become character;
Create your character; for it is your destiny.

(Revised from Upanishads)

Write for at least one-page every time you sit with the activity. Spend time focusing on one line at a time, or embrace the whole of it, and journal each part (or whole). Watch how thoughts unfold; see what comes to you. Have fun with this self-aware practice. It continually changes what you know, what you think, and how thoughts impact who you are today.
